Written for one of you

A private story with a cast, written around one person by the friends who know her best. Set in the real Singapore, on an ordinary Saturday.

You are in the story

You are not guests at a party. You are characters with lines, places and envelopes — and she does not know it yet.

From three to twelve

Three friends or twelve. Some of you can be in the scenes, all of you in the last one.

How a night with friends can go

Three friends discover a card under a coffee saucer

Three friends recognise a dress in a tailor’s window
Scene 2
19:30

In the tailor’s window — the dress she wore on her first birthday in Singapore.

A trishaw driver offers a sealed envelope to three friends
Scene 3
21:00

A trishaw, a driver who knows the plot, and the next address in an envelope.

Friends raise glasses around a woman on a Singapore rooftop
Scene 4
23:00

The last scene — a rooftop, and everyone she has ever lived with is on it.

Every night is written from a blank page. These are four scenes from one possible night.

Dear Ana,

Tomorrow at 18:00 you will be at dinner on Amoy Street with the people who love you most. Order whatever you like. The plates will not be what you expect.

Do not be alarmed. Your friends have read this letter. So has the city.

Teleport

Four of you get the chat. One of you gets the letter.

A story that happened

A whole city. Her own story.

A day ordered for one woman by someone who loves her. A stranger knew her name. Then a magazine with her face on the cover. By the afternoon, an exhibition of her. She learnt who had written the day only in the last scene.

In their words

“I think it's the greatest gift I could have given her.” — the one who ordered the day

Notes for the one who organises

How much does a night cost?

It depends on the cast, the number of friends and the length of the night. We share the cost after the first conversation — and it is usually shared between the friends.

Will she know?

No. She thinks it is dinner. The rest of you know the plot — and still, nothing goes the way you expect.

Do we have to act?

No. You get one line each and a place to be. The cast does the acting; you do the laughing.

Who makes the bookings?

We do. Once the script is written, Teleport brings it to life: the cast, the venues, the reservations, the props and the set. You arrive; the day is already in motion.

How long does it take to prepare?

Two to ten weeks to write and cast.

How many of us can take part?

From three to twelve. Some of you in the scenes, all of you in the last one.

Will it be filmed?

Film and photography — by request. Otherwise nothing is recorded.
